|
It is
an approach used for sustainable development and ensuring the community
participation. In Social organization KK is organizing and mobilizing
rural women and men communities in the Partner Communities. This
helps the communities in building their capacities, enhance managerial
and advocacy skills that is leading them towards local level institutions.
KK has established a good working relationship with its partner
communities. The local communities in the remote villages have been
linked to various relevant government agencies and Civil Society
Organizations (CSOs). |

I.
Village Selection
In Upper & Lower Dir 18 PRAs were conducted in 18 villages;
Sundhary, Shawa, Badalai,
Misyalor Payeen, Kamil Dhairy, Bahar Abad, Daskor, Kala Dhairy,
Khambo, Khush Mqam, Kotkey, Qazi Abad, Sadiqa Banda, Shaftalan,
Shah Adam, Zar Baig, Surdam and Kotigram. PRA was conducted for
both female and male communities. The community analyzed their village,
identified different problems and proposed different solution to
their problems. The problems identified are drinking water, infrastructure,
health, roads, middle education, handicrafts and agriculture sector/irrigation
were prioritized. Tools applied during PRA were social mapping,
networking diagram for different contact with near by villages,
pie chart for crops, occupation analysis and well being ranking.
CBS impact, cause and effect, pair wise ranking for priorities,
Venn diagram for external and internal individuals and different
institution. At the end of PRA village development plan (VDP) was
developed by the community and they made themselves responsible
for solving the problems and to bring prosperity in the village.
In FR-Bannu 5 PRAs were conducted in 14 villages,
Noor Musa Khel, Shah Khali, Kaski Sardi Khel, and Dir Nawab, Ghorha
Baka Khel, and a cluster of 10 villages of Kheraki Mama Khel. Village
development plan was developed in which the identified needs during
PRA process like education, health, female mobility, drinking water,
infrastructure lack of awareness about rights and hygiene was prioritized
and developed by village people to fulfill the needs of the area.
In Karak 3 PRAs conducted in 3 villages and Village
Development Plan (VDP) had been developed accordingly. In the PRAs
problems identified were related drinking water supply, sanitation,
health facilities, infra structure, education, lack of awareness
regarding rights, limited mobility of female and their access to
basic facilities. |

II. Community Mobilization and Organization
In Upper & Lower Dir 13 WOs and MOs were formed and registered
with Social Welfare Department as CCB with membership of 260 and
240 respectively. They have submitted proposals to District Government
and US Aid for funding
In FR-Bannu 4 WOs and 4 MOs have been formed with
membership 76 and 139 respectively. The people actively participated
in the process of WO and MO formation and identified all the problems,
issues and infrastructure details. A plan was developed in which
the identified needs during PRA process like education, health,
female mobility, drinking water, infrastructure lack of awareness
about rights and hygiene was prioritized and developed by village
people to fulfill the needs of the area.
In Karak 5 women and 7 men organizations have been
formed having 111 and 281 membership respectively. With these formation
KK has total 22 women and 23 men organizations with a total membership
of 533 and 932 respectively. In the reporting period 2 women and
5 men organization have been registered with Social Welfare Department
under Citizen Community Board (CCB).
KK has started working on mobilizing community in Peshawar for
the formation of women and men organization. As a result 2 WOs and
2 MOs at villages Kochian and Hindko kaley have been formed with
58 and 85 membership respectively.

Jana of Tarkha Koi conducted training on Food Processing, Participatory
Rural Appraisal, Social Organization and Gender training respectively

III. Capacity Building of WOs and MOs :
In Upper & Lower Dir
1. 2 trainings on Basic Social Organization and activist were arranged
capacitated 35 participants from 13 villages at Dir lower and 20
participants from 6 villages at Dir upper. The main objective of
the training was to make the members of the organizations good activist
and they further developed the action plan for the organizations
strengthening. The Community Development Department (Social Welfare)
at both districts was in the trainings. Mr. Rahim Shah District
Officer Community Development Dir lower was invited to the opening
and closing ceremonies, while Mr. Fazal Wahid, District Officer
Community Development Dir Upper did the opening of the training
at Dir Upper.
2. Organizational management trainings were conducted both for WOs
and MOs benefited participants from 11 villages and 12 villages
respectively.
3. Training was conducted on PRA to orient the community with PRA
Tools and its approaches.
4. 6 training on Social Organization and Community Participation
benefited 10 WOs at Shawa, Khambo, Misyalorh, Sundry, Both Qila
and Shah Adam, Shaftalan, Zarbaig, Kotkay, and Khush Muqam.
5. 9 trainings on Financial Management training for 9 WOs and 2
for MOs in four villages Shawa, Misyalorh Payeen, Bot Qila and Sundry
were conducted. They were made aware of the use of financial record
keeping, importance of saving and its utilization.
6. Record keeping training was conducted for MOs to improve and
enhance the basic record keeping skills of the organizations.
7. 16 members of MOs visited different organizations Tanzeem Zalmay
Kul Tirat- Swat (TZKT), Sahar Youth Organization, Tirat Swat and
Anjuman Behbood Nawjawanan Gunyar. The MOs members took interest
in the activities of these organizations. The feedback of the participants
were as follow, after the exposure visit the MOs members of village
Shaftalan responded that, “We have learnt the lesson of courage
and tolerance that we should not discourage in difficult situation.
We will eliminate the obstacle in the way of our organization with
tolerance.”
In FR Bannu Basic Social Organization and Activist
training was conducted for 3 villages, Noor Musa Khel, Kheraki Mama
Khel and Kaski Sardi Khel. An exposure visit for these three villages
was arranged to partner communities of KK in District Karak namely
Kanda Baji Khel and Tarkha Koi. They visited the VECs and also the
nurseries established in the communities. As a result they have
learnt the importance of education especially of female education
and also the importance of developmental activities.
In Karak taking into account the capacity building
of partner communities WO and MO of Kanda Baji Khel, Bogara, Tarkha
Koi, Walaki, Chani Khel and Kando Khel. The following trainings
were conducted with the support of CHIP:
1. Social Organization training enabled 92 women and 113 men to
have conceptual clarity and importance of Social Organization in
the development process.
2. Organizational Development training was conducted in two phases
that benefited 17 women and 19 men in 1st phase while 8 women and
13 men in 2nd phase.
3. Civil Rights and Governance training in two phases capacitated
11 women and 8 men in 1st phase while 8 women and 14 men in 2nd
phase. They learnt about citizen’s basic rights, local government
systems & committees, Muslim family & marriage laws. In
addition they also became aware of the gaps in the present system
of election especially in their areas where less importance is given
to the female vote in electoral process.
4. Gender training was participated by 7 women and 7 men from 5
organizations. They learnt to internalize the women and children
rights.
5. PRA training conducted in which 8 women and 6 men from 5 villages
actively participated.
6. 1 exposure visit was arranged to Swabi Women Welfare Society
(SWWS) for the 5 WOs and MOs of the above-mentioned villages, in
which 2 members from each organization participated. The participants
had shared experiences of their developmental activities with SWWS
and visited their schools for child labors, activities of micro
enterprise and health centers.
The WOs and MOs also made visits to other KK partner
communities at local level.
In Peshawar 4 Social Organization Trainings (SOTs)
were arranged. These trainings enabled 24 women and 24 men from
Kuchain and 35 womane and 32 men from Hindko Kalay.
These trainings were conducted and facilitated
by Ms. Noshad Iqbal (CF-SO-Female) and Mr. Shafiq ul Islam (CF-SO-Male)
of RPU Karak.

After
the Civil rights training the women/men became aware of their political
rights and they gained the confidence of asking about their rights
from MPAs, Mans etc.
A school roof collapsed and injured 4 children very badly. A man
Mr. Gul Faraz Khan came to Karak and met with MAN, and DCO for urgent
relief as at the moment they were in the meeting. DHO Karak was
also contacted for free and urgent treatment of the injured.
He was promised and assured
that the construction of the school will be arranged on urgent basis.

IV.
Advocacy and awareness raising
In Dir Upper& Lower meeting with Malakand Rural Support Tehrik
of Humanity took place. They are working for the capacity building
of the CBOs. Agreement was made in the said meeting regarding experience
sharing and capacity building of the KK partner communities.
5 partner communities got registered with Social
Welfare Department as CCBs.
In FR Bannu interaction with media and clergy was
initiated to minimize the suspicions regarding the workings of NGO.
In this regard a leader of religious parties agreed and promised
to have dialogue and to develop understanding with each other.
A proposal of Rs.150, 000/- is submitted to US-Aid
for supporting village Noor Musa Khel in drinking water supply scheme.
In a meeting with Social Welfare Department it was suggested by
its SWO to initiate for registration of Noor Musa Khel’s WO
and MO in July 2004 that would benefit them in submitting proposals
for the developmental activities to the government and other civil
society agencies.
On Farm Water Management Department conducted the
survey of village Kaski Sardi Khel at FR-Bannu and register its
membership under the Water Management Act. As a result of this membership
the watercourse project for the village is in process and will be
completed in December 2004.
In Karak the WO and MO of Walaki Muhabat Khel developed
linkages with Construction Works Department to support them in developing
of water scheme project. The WO and MO of Chani Khel developed linkages
with Sarhad Rural Support Programme for drinking water project.
To address their needs of drinking water Kanda Bajji Khel WO and
MO are in the process of developing a proposal for submission to
Local Government for drinking water project/installation of hand
pumps. Weakh Zalmi Welfare Organization of Bia Kara Banda developed
linkages with Farm Forestry Project and National Commission for
Human Development for establishment of nurseries and adult literacy
centers in their village.
The WO and MO of village Khusra Faqir Abad developed
linkages with SRSP Barrani for installation of hand pumps in their
CBGPS, which they promised to install in the end of December 2004.
The president of WO Kanda Baji Khel, Ms Mahaz Bibi
arranged an introductory meeting with Sabawoon Organization to discuss
the hardware activities and organization sustainability of their
community. Sabawoon appreciated by presenting a diary to her for
the hard work.
Ms. Caroline Pym member of Friends of Khwendo Kor
(FROK) visited village Walaki Muhabat Khel for the purpose to meet
the WOs and MOs. Women strongly put forward their need of water
scarcity in which they suffer a lot by bringing water from far flung
areas. In this regard she asked KK to submit a proposal for water
scheme for the mentioned village. The proposal has been submitted
to her.
