Projects
The majority of poor people are deprived of most of the basic facilities. Women and children are the most vulnerable segment of society, hence are the direct victims of health problems.

Under PHC, KK is involved, with the active involvement of partner communities in training of Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs), awareness raising regarding health and hygiene, organizing free medical camps, health campaigns and establishing linkages between communities and Line Departments.

I. Capacity Building of Traditional Birth Attendants Trained (TBA)

In Dir Upper and Lower 39 TBAs from 19 villages were trained at Union Council level Rural Health Center. 34 TBAs completed the refresher courses. The TBAs provided their services to community in deliveries, and conducted 316 deliveries.

In FR-Bannu 2 women of village Noor Musa Khel, were trained as Traditional Birth Attendant by the LHV of Health Department with the support of EDO Health.

In Karak 14 TBAs have been trained in 2 villages Baikara Banda and Kimari Banda. 78 TBAs of 14 villages; Bogara, Baikara Banda, Shaggy, Takht-e-Nasrati, Kanda Baji Khel, Chani Khel, Khusra Lawa ghar, Tarkha Koi, Kando Khel, Chanda Khuram, Kimari Banda, Walaki, Kamali Banda and Kashmiri Banda are providing services in deliveries, referring women and children for vaccination and delivered health sessions in their communities. KK trained TBA of Takht-e-Nasrati Ms. Koob Zaire who is appointed as TBA at Civil Hospital of Tehsil Takht-e-Nasrati. 3 days refresher course was also arranged for Traditional Birth Attendants at Kanda Baji Khel. 4 TBAs participated in the course.

The TBAs of 9 villages Tarkha Koi, Chani Khel, Kando Khel, Khusra, Chanda Khuram, Takhti Nasrati, Kanda Baji Khel, Shaggy and Baikara Banda conducted 61 deliveries. All the cases were successfully dealt while 6 were referred to hospital.

III. Advocacy and awareness raising

Health Sessions
In Dir Upper and Lower 13720 sessions (13536 by TBAs & 184 by KK staff) to 24540 participants were delivered during the reporting period.

In FR-Bannu 5 health awareness sessions were conducted in 3 villages of FR Bannu, benefited 61 participants about cleanliness, breast-feeding, prevention from malaria, typhoid and other infections.

In Karak 24 health awareness sessions were conducted by 8 TBAs with 210 women and children in 3 villages. In the sessions pregnant women were referred to hospitals for TT vaccine, children were referred for hepatitis, polio and diphtheria vaccines and also in case of temperature and flue. Other than these sessions the TBAs also give awareness during her home visits to pregnant and lactating women regarding diet, cleanliness, precautionary measures, weaning diet and many other topics according to the need.

Community Facilitator, health conducted 27 health sessions attended by 481 community people at District Karak. These sessions were to address the issues/importance of personal hygiene, vaccination of tetnus; TB and scabies, worms, measles and chicken pox.

Linkages:
In Dir Upper and Lower the linkages were established with District Health Department and Population Welfare Department for the provision of vaccine in Ushary Dir Upper, polio eradication, TBAs final assessment and free medical camps in all KK partner communities. Support was extended by KK in logistics required by Government Department in vaccination and polio days. The WO members of MRASTA organization Malakand Agency visited Khush Muqam, Khambo & Zarif Khan.


In FR-Bannu meetings took place with District Health Department, District Administration, On Farm Water Management and Barani Area Development Project for extending their support to KK partner villages. As a result effective linkages were established with various departments. District Health Department extended their support in providing Lady Health visitor to facilitate TBA training at village Musa Khel organized by KK.

EDO Health provided 2 doctors and equipped laboratory technician for free medical camp at Kheraki Mamma Khel, FR Bannu. They also provided a Lady Health Supervisor for kits and certificate distribution to trained TBAs. The certificates were counter signed by EDO Health.

District Health Department also assessed trained TBA and countersigned the TBA certificate. One of the KK’s trained TBA applied for the position of TBA in the dysfunctional government dispensary at village Noor Musa Khel. Executive District Health Officer considered her application. The appointment is still in process.

In Karak District Health Department supported KK in the provision of vaccine and vaccinator. The District Health Officer and medical supertendent provided medicines, vaccines and vaccination for TT vaccines and they provided TT vaccine to 71 women.
