KK considers
education as central to all development, especially women’s
development. For this purpose KK facilitates village women, men
and children in establishing Community Based Girls Primary Schools
(CBGPS) and Adult Literacy Centers according to their prioritized
needs. In addition, Village Education Committees (VECs) are formed
for effective management, monitoring and sustainability of the schools
and centers. KK fosters linkages of VECs with Education Line Departments
and Local Philanthropists. |

I.
Provision of Educational Facilities
In Dir Upper & Lower no new school establishment
took place, currently 38 CBGPS are functioning with 1342 girls and
142 boys enrollment. Exams were held in CBGPS, result announcement
ceremonies were organized and mothers participated in it. 111 learners
from 5 Adult Literacy Centers have learnt basic writings and counting
during the session. These students of Adult Centers received course
completion certificates.
In FR-Bannu 2 CBGPS was established at Noor Musa
Khel and Akra Barat of Kheraki Mama Khel with 40 and 27 enrollments.
In Karak 2 CBGPS were established at Baikara Banda
and Mansoor Ghar with 28 and 18 enrollment. With this establishment
KK has established 8 CBGPS with 318 enrolments. 2 adult centers
at villages Litamber and Chatta Banda have been established with
17 and 25 enrollments respectively. The total adult centers in Karak
are 3 with 52 enrollments. 12 learners of adult center of Litambar
have passed the examination successfully.
In Peshawar 2 Adult centers have been established
at Kochiano Kaley and Hindko Kaley with 21 and 17 women enrolled
respectively.

II. Community Mobilization
and Organization
For schools sustainability community participation,
VEC formation, linkages with line departments are ensured. The community
organizations are involved in saving and its utilization in the
repair and maintenance of the CBGPS. The community provides the
venue for the schools. VECs regularly monitor the school, teacher
and students’ progress and status. The VECs are capacitated
to mobilize local resource for running of the schools after withdrawal
of KK support. Local philanthropists also play an important role.
In this regard Ms. Zubaida Khatoon and Ms. Danish have taken over
two CBGPS in Dir.
In Dir Upper and Lower 7 women and 9 men Village
Education Committees (VECs) have been formed with a membership of
72 and 163 respectively which adds to total of 38 women and 38 men
VECs with total membership of 483 and 567 respectively. 6 women
and 9 men VECs have been structured while 1 woman and 1 male VEC
have been restructured.
In Karak 2 VECs formed at Baikara Banda and Mansoor Ghar with 10
& 30 membership respectively. KK has so far formed 8 female
VEC with 160 membership. |

III.
Capacity Building
a. Teacher
Teacher’s capacity building is done in three ways; on the
job trainingt, structured trainings and exposure visits.
On job training is provided to the teachers during
monitoring visits and paydays. During the monitoring visit to school,
teachers are guided and corrections are made where it is necessary
in session/classes for quality education. Paydays are the forum
where they share experiences with each other and expect support
from each other. Group works on different issues are conducted,
lectures, question answers and handouts are shared with them. These
pay days conducted regularly on monthly basis
The structured trainings given to the teachers
is to make them familiar with the new techniques or teaching methodologies
so to make them able to teach according to the new skills techniques
to provide better education to the children. For this purpose services
of external resource persons are hired from education departments.
In this connection a content Based Class Wise Teacher
training up to class 3 was arranged in Dir Upper & Lower with
the support of Development in Literacy (DIL) Islamabad. This training
was facilitated and conducted by Ms. Iffat Nasir (Assistant District
Education Officer District Swat) capacitated 50 teachers of Community
Based Girls Schools of Dir Upper & Lower.
In FR Bannu the HID Section of KK also conducted an on job training
for a newly appointed male teacher at FR Bannu of Noor Musa Khel
School. This training was content/subject based and was conducted
by the Human and Institutional Development Facilitator (HIDF) of
KK.
In Karak training was conducted. The training was
for 8 days on content-based knowledge participated by 9 teachers.
Ms. Shazia, PEP-ILE Master Trainer and PTC teacher delivered the
training.
The exposure visits for the teachers were arranged both inter and
intra regions of KK to see the CBGPS of KK and other Govt Schools.
The objectives of the visits are to share their experiences and
observe teacher teaching method and also to learn preparation of
teaching kits.
In FR Bannu an exposure visit was arranged for CBGP School teacher
of Noor Musa Khel to Karak CBGPS, where he visited CBGPS Chanda
Khurram to enhance his capacities and learning
In Karak 2 exposure visits were arranged for teachers of Bogara,
Chanda Khurram, Kanda Baji Khel, Chani Khel, Baikara Banda to Government
girls primary school official colony Karak and CBGPS Walaki Muhabat
Khel. These teachers also hold a meeting with VEC of Walaki mohabat
Khel during visit to this CBGPS.

b.
Village Education Committee
In Dir Upper and Lower To strengthen VECs 2 Organization Development
trainings, Financial Management training, PRA for MOs, Record Keeping
for MOs, Financial Management for MOs, PRA training attended by
a male member of VEC, Appropriate tool for Gender analysis by VEC
member, Fabric Painting.
3 days capacity building training was arranged
for 6 male VECs at Asbanr cluster. Mr. Abid Rehman, Resource Person,
facilitated the training. After a month the trained members were
gathered and they gave their feed back and shared their learnings.
They shared improvements like organizing meetings frequently, saving,
solution of different problems, record keeping etc. The VEC Shah
Adam shared that they constructed the road to village and now the
vehicles easily reach to the village. Some of them mentioned that
they have approached to the MPAs for Government Girls Primary School
in their village. During this period some VECs members did the minor
repair in schools, white washing and latrines were constructed in
some schools. The VEC Shawa expanded the school by constructing
2nd room.
In Karak 3 days VEC training was conducted at Khusra
Lawaghar with the objective to capacitate them in CBGPS monitoring
and management and to strategize the problems identified in the
CBGPS. The contents of the training were: organization definition
& membership criteria in an organization, importance of women
education, status of Women in Islam focusing on girls’ education,
definition of development, village development, female role in development,
characteristic & role and responsibility of executive body of
VEC.
As a result of this training many women started
to take membership of the VEC. They became aware about the workings
of the NGOs especially of KK. They also accepted that female education
is necessary. The most important thing is that they realized the
strength in unity and decision-making. The women collectively decided
that they would make all necessary maintenance in the schools and
in future they have planned to construct another room for the students
because the enrollment is increasing day by day which is 70 at present.
The elected president is the wife of mulvi Mr. Gani Rehman to ensure
the involvement of clergy for smooth running of the programme. After
the training at Mansoor Garh students have started to attend the
school regularly, and inform the teacher through their mother in
case of leave.
